How to get better at identifying flags
Start with structure before color. Ask whether the flag is horizontal, vertical, crossed, charged with a symbol, or divided diagonally. Then use color combinations and regional design traditions to narrow the possibilities. This approach is more durable than trying to remember hundreds of isolated images.
Why similar flags are useful
Romania and Chad, Indonesia and Monaco, Ireland and Côte d’Ivoire, and several Slavic tricolors are useful precisely because they are similar. Comparing confusing pairs forces you to notice proportions, ordering and emblems. The Flag mode repeatedly exposes those distinctions until they become automatic.
Flags are pieces of history
Flags often preserve political history in compact form. Crosses, stars, crescents, revolutionary colors and inherited colonial motifs can point to religious, dynastic or independence-era traditions.
